In Letter to Pro-Life Leaders, Trump Highlights Clinton’s Extreme Position & Pledges to Make Hyde Amendment Permanent Law

Washington, D.C. – In a letter made public today by Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List), Donald Trump outlines four pro-life policy commitments, including his pledge to make the Hyde Amendment permanent law. Trump also enlisted SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser to serve as National Chairwoman of his campaign’s Pro-life Coalition. In the letter, Trump lists his commitments to the pro-life movement:

“Hillary Clinton’s unwavering commitment to advancing taxpayer-funded abortion on-demand stands in stark contrast to the commitments I’ve made to advance the rights of unborn children and their mothers when elected president. I am committed to:

  • Nominating pro-life justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.
  • Signing into law the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would end painful late-term abortions nationwide.
  • Defunding Planned Parenthood as long as they continue to perform abortions and reallocating their funding to community health centers that provide comprehensive health care for women.
  • Making the Hyde Amendment permanent law to protect taxpayers from having to pay for abortions.”

The Hyde Amendment is longstanding, bipartisan policy to protect the conscience rights of taxpayers by stopping taxpayer funding of elective abortions. Hillary Clinton has pledged to rescind the Hyde Amendment. For the first time, the Party Platform ratified by Democrats this summer explicitly calls for the repeal of this policy.

“Not only has Mr. Trump doubled down on his three existing commitments to the pro-life movement, he has gone a step further in pledging to protect the Hyde Amendment and the conscience rights of millions of pro-life taxpayers. For a candidate to make additional commitments during a general election is almost unheard of,” said Dannenfelser. “The contrast could not be clearer between the two tickets, and I am proud to serve as National Chairwoman for Donald Trump’s Pro-Life Coalition.”

Co-chairs of the Pro-life Coalition will be announced later this month. National and state-level coalition members in key states will write op-eds, act as surrogates, recruit volunteers, and various other activities to support the Trump-Pence ticket.

Susan B. Anthony List and its partner super PAC, Women Speak Out, have knocked on more than 600,000 doors in the battleground states of Florida, North Carolina and Ohio to turn out the pro-life vote to defeat Hillary Clinton.

Susan B. Anthony List and its Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, spent $16.71 million in the 2014 election cycle to defeat pro-abortion incumbents and elect pro-life candidates to federal and statewide office. The SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 465,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
