Dobbs freed America from the lie that the Constitution conferred a right to abortion. What Dobbs couldn’t do was remove the reasons that can lead women and girls to resort to abortion. Congress must address those reasons and provide genuine, empowering care.
Congress should support legislation to grow and support the pro-life safety net of programs that support moms and their children before and after birth.
Priority Legislation
Congress must support moms and their unborn children before and after birth. Some of these efforts include:
- Providing for Life Act: This bill offers support and assistance to unborn children, pregnant women, parents, and families by extending child tax credits to include unborn children, offering refundable adoption tax credits, and expanding support for pregnancy centers. It also makes SNAP and WIC more effective for families, establishes a grant program to fund integrated mentoring services for low-income mothers, provides awareness for pregnant moms of existing resources, promotes parental leave, expands support for pregnancy resource centers, and more.
- Health, Opportunity, Protecting Life, Education (HOPE) Act: The HOPE Act improves prenatal and maternal care by reallocating Planned Parenthood funding to abortion alternatives and prenatal telehealth care. It also promotes women’s health and access to resources by ensuring informed consent and parental notification, and by providing awareness for pregnant moms of existing resources.
- Legislation to address barriers for children and families in the foster care system or seeking adoption.
- Sincere efforts to address maternal mortality, considering all pregnancy outcomes with the goal of ensuring women receive quality and timely life-affirming healthcare.
- Protections for the pro-life workforce so that healthcare providers are never forced to be involved in abortion.
- Bills to address attacks on pregnancy centers and maternity homes.
