DeSantis & FL Lawmakers Stand With the Majority of Americans Who Reject Late Abortions

Washington, D.C.Pro-abortion groups led by the nation’s largest abortion chain, Planned Parenthood, filed a lawsuit today in an effort to block a new law, signed by Governor Ron DeSantis earlier this year, that protects unborn children and their mothers from painful late abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America blasted the abortion lobby’s lawsuit, saying:

“Planned Parenthood and the abortion lobby are proving their abortion extremism by filing suit so they can continue performing brutally painful abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy in Florida,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. “The compassionate protections signed by Gov. DeSantis will save thousands of unborn lives and spare their mothers from the horror of painful late abortions. Americans of all backgrounds support limits on abortion at 15 weeks, a time when science tells us unborn children have beating hearts, suck their thumbs and can feel excruciating pain. Yet the abortion industry and their Democrat allies ignore the will of the people, running to the courts so they can continue performing brutal and painful abortions after 15 weeks. We thank Gov. DeSantis and our Florida allies for standing strong for women and children and are hopeful this compassionate law will ultimately stand.”

Polling released in 2019 shows 76% of Florida voters – including 64% of Democrats, 75% of Independents, 77% of women, and 53% of self-described pro-choice voters – support a law prohibiting late-term abortions (only 24% support allowing late-term abortions).

Charlotte Lozier Institute, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America’s research arm, estimates that 3,334 abortions at 15 weeks’ gestation or later were performed in Florida in 2020, based on data from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
