Pro-Life Advocates Demand Investigation

Washington, D.C. Disturbing undercover footage released today by the pro-life group Live Action shows an exchange between a 28-week pregnant woman and a staff member of Cesare Santangelo’s Washington, D.C. late-term abortion facility:

  • The patient asks to talk to the doctor before the procedure and is told she must take Xanax and “we have to make sure that that’s in your system before you talk to the doctor.”
  • After asking again to talk to the doctor before the procedure, the patient is told: “He’s not going to be able to speak with you until he is ready to do [the abortion]. And you’re actually pants off in the room.”
  • The patient is told she may go into premature labor and deliver her aborted child alone in a hotel room, in which case “he [the abortionist] could come and help you take care of it. We could just tell you what to do with the remains.”

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America issued the following statement:

“Before the loneliness of chemical abortion, abortion advocates used to insist ‘abortion should be a conversation between a woman and her doctor.’ The reality is that this mother, well into the third trimester, is only permitted to speak to a doctor after her she’s ‘pants off’ and under the influence of Xanax,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Abortion is not health care and the profit-driven abortion industry brutally exploits both the unborn children whose lives are taken and their mothers.”

Earlier this year pro-life advocates obtained the bodies of several aborted children connected with the Washington Surgi-Clinic, including a child born within the amniotic sac. Although medical experts believe they may have been killed in illegal partial-birth abortions or even born alive, no autopsy or investigation has been conducted to determine whether their deaths violated the federal Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act or Born-Alive Infants Protection Act. Washington, D.C. and 20 states allow abortion on demand for virtually any reason up to birth.

“The callous response of D.C. and federal authorities so far has been not to investigate the abortionist, but to prosecute the brave pro-life advocates who exposed evidence of serious violations,” continued Dannenfelser. “Women and children will continue to suffer harm every day the authorities refuse to do their job and as long as the U.S. remains one of a tiny handful of nations that allow abortion on demand up to birth.”

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
