The Senate Finance Committee voted Gov. Kathleen Sebelius out of committee Tuesday morning. As the nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services, Sebelius will now come to a full floor vote in the U.S. Senate. Congressional Quarterly reports that Sebelius was approved by a vote of 15-8, with only two Republicans – Sen. Olympia Snow (R-Maine) and Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) – voting “Yes.”
Sebelius faced some controversy during her hearings before the committee after she failed to accurately report her financial ties to infamous late-term abortionist George Tiller. In her initial report, she claimed she received $14,450 in campaign donations from Tiller. In reality, the amount Tiller gave her was more than twice that, totaling $39,600.
A final vote in the Senate has yet to be scheduled, though Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s office told CQ her nomination will be voted on, “as soon as possible.”
