Unpopular Bill Backed by Biden Would Impose Painful “All-Trimester Abortions” Nationwide
Washington, D.C. – Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives today attempted to use an unrelated procedural vote to force the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, better known as the Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act, onto the House floor. This radical legislation endorsed by President Biden would block new and existing pro-life laws, including those that protect babies from late-term abortions.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser slammed House Democrats in a statement:
“Today, pro-abortion House Democrats tried to launch a surprise attack on babies and mothers and force their Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act onto the House floor. They were defeated by united House Republicans who all voted against it. The egregiously deceptive ‘Women’s Health Protection Act’ has nothing to do with protecting women or health and everything to do with expanding abortion with no limits throughout all nine months – even painful late-term abortions.
“This is further proof that the Democrats are obsessed with imposing their radical, unpopular abortion agenda on all of America. Despite Joe Biden’s obfuscation, they will stop at nothing to go even further than Roe v. Wade to enshrine abortion on demand in our laws. We thank our pro-life allies for their constant vigilance and we will work vigorously to expose and hold these pro-abortion extremists accountable at the ballot box.”
SBA Pro-Life America has scored against previous versions of the bill and issued a memo detailing its extreme provisions that effectively expand abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy:
The abortion industry’s view of viability was demonstrated by the testimony of Dr. Colleen McNicholas, Chief Medical Officer for Planned Parenthood for the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri, during her testimony before the Oversight and Government Reform Committee in November 2019. Asked when she considered an unborn child to be viable, she said, “There is no particular gestational age. There are some pregnancies in which the fetus will never be viable…” Later she affirmed, “My practice includes abortion care through the point of viability and as we previously discussed that could be at any point.”
Polling by Marist, Harvard-Harris, AP-NORC and NPR consistently shows that two thirds of Americans or more support limiting abortion no later than the first trimester (three months) of pregnancy.
