President-elect Trump has Pledged to Sign into Law the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act; SBA List’s Top Legislative Priority

Washington, DC – Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) announced today the results of a poll finding that a majority of voters – women in higher numbers than men – support the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation to limit abortions after five months, a point by which the unborn child demonstrably feels pain.

President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to sign this legislation, SBA List’s top priority, into law. It was one of four pro-life commitments, along with defunding Planned Parenthood, that Mr. Trump made in a letter to the pro-life movement during the general election.

the polling company, inc./WomanTrend conducted the survey of 824 voters on November 8, 2016, at a Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) facility using live callers. The margin of error is ±3.4%. Sixty-four percent of voters nationwide favor the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Act (43 percent strongly support). Support for the legislation is especially high among:

  • Millennial voters – 78 percent support
  • Women voters – 67 percent support
  • African Americans – 70 percent support
  • Hispanics – 57 percent support

“Last year Donald Trump told CBN that the United States ‘should not be one of seven countries that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks. It goes against our core values.’ A majority of voters – including women, young people, Hispanics, and African Americans – agree. They support compassionate legislation to limit abortion after five months, more than halfway through pregnancy,” said SBA List’s President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Pro-life voters who were key to victory on election night are eager to see a pro-life White House and Congress address the horrific reality of late-term abortion in America. We urge Congress to take up this legislation as soon as possible so that as many as 18,000 lives a year will be saved.”

Susan B. Anthony List and its connected super PAC, Women Speak Out spent more than $18 million in the 2016 election cycle, knocking on more than 1.1 million doors in battleground states to defeat Hillary Clinton and maintain a pro-life Senate. SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 465,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
