New Measures add to Pro-life Groundswell in the States, Will Save Lives, Despite Biden Admin’s Roll Back of FDA Safety Standards
Washington, D.C. – Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) celebrated as the Oklahoma legislature passed the Abortion-Inducing Drug Risk Protocol Act and the Abortion-Inducing Drug Certification Program Act. The measures will place safeguards on dangerous chemical abortion drugs and will establish a state-certification system for chemical abortion drugs to be overseen by the state’s Board of Pharmacy. Oklahoma is the first state to implement the Board of Pharmacy measure to certify and track chemical abortion drugs. Both bills now head to Governor Stitt’s desk.
The Biden-Harris administration’s FDA recently announced that during COVID-19, they will no longer enforce the in-person requirement for women to receive abortion drugs on the federal level.
“We commend the Oklahoma legislature for passing these life-saving laws, and for pioneering a state-level certification program for dangerous abortion-inducing drugs,” said SBA List State Policy Director Sue Liebel. “The program requires that doctors be specifically certified to dispense abortion drugs and ensures that distributors transport the drugs to those doctors alone. Chemical abortion has a four-times greater complication rate than surgical abortions. That is why the program also provides for tracking of adverse events and complications experienced by women.
“Oklahoma joins states across the country in passing a groundswell of laws that save unborn lives from abortion. As the Biden-Harris administration attempts to exploit the dwindling COVID-19 pandemic and turn every post office and pharmacy into an abortion center, states like Oklahoma are taking steps to ensure women know the facts about these dangerous abortion-inducing drugs. We look forward to Governor Stitt signing these bills into law, and are grateful to Senator Julie Daniels, a member of our National Pro-Life Women’s Caucus, as well as Representative Mark Lepak for championing these measures that will save Oklahoma women and their babies.”
A recent study reviewing reported adverse events over a 20-year period found that women can experience severe side-effects after taking the chemical abortion pill, including heavy bleeding, intense pain, and even death.
The Guttmacher Institute recently reported that 70 pro-life laws have been passed in 47 states across the country in 2021.
SBA List is a network of 900,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
