Despite Increased Taxpayer Funding, Abortion Giant Sees 600,000 Client Drop Over Five Years
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) reviewed Planned Parenthood’s annual report and found that despite increased taxpayer funding over the last five years, Planned Parenthood’s non-abortion services and unique patients have declined at a rapid pace.
“Women are turning away from abortion giant Planned Parenthood,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Over the past five years, despite increased taxpayer funding, their client load has dropped by 600,000, cancer screenings are down nearly 50%, and contraceptive services are down nearly 20%.
“While non-abortion services are declining, Planned Parenthood continues to perform a record number of abortions – over 300,000 per year. They’ve performed more than 1.6 million abortions in the last five years alone.
“It’s time to re-direct Planned Parenthood’s funding to community health centers. They outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities by an average of 20 to 1 nationwide and are more comprehensive and accessible to the poor. Taxpayers would be disentangled from the grisly abortion industry and get a better return on their investment in women’s health.”
Just last week Planned Parenthood announced they will close ten of their facilities in four states, even before any portion of their half billion dollars in taxpayer funding is redirected to local community health centers.
Community health care centers enjoy strong bipartisan support, avoid provision of abortion, and now serve nearly 24.3 million people (and climbing) in medically underserved communities across the United States. Women can obtain mammograms, mental health services, and a variety of other primary care services at community health centers that are not available at Planned Parenthood.
According to Planned Parenthood’s own annual reports, between 2011 and 2016:
Susan B. Anthony List and its partner super PAC, Women Speak Out spent more than $18 million in the 2016 election cycle, knocking on more than 1.1 million doors in battleground states to defeat Hillary Clinton and maintain a pro-life Senate. SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. Â The SBA List is a network of more than 465,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
