Washington, D.C. – Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America today slammed a package of pro-abortion expansion bills signed into law by New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D):
“Governor Hochul and pro-abortion Democrats are radically out of touch with real New York values. The overwhelming majority of New Yorkers, including Democrats and Independents, reject abortion extremism,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America. “Hochul’s efforts to make New York a ‘safe haven’ for the abortion industry are ironic since the state has a Safe Haven law designed to protect babies and mothers so that no one ever feels her only choice is to kill her child. A true leader would highlight and support life-affirming alternatives, like the vast network of pregnancy centers nationwide whose mission is to serve women and families, instead of fearmongering and doubling down on abortion on demand until birth.
“The extremism of pro-abortion Democrats in states like New York and California, who ignore the clear will of the people in pushing their agenda, shows why the pro-life movement must continue to educate voters across America and why it is crucial to elect both state and federal lawmakers who will be as ambitious as possible in building consensus for life.”
Pro-abortion Democrats such as Hochul and then-Governor Andrew Cuomo have worked to expand New York’s already-permissive abortion laws and shield abortionists from accountability, despite a history of abortion industry abuses and clear harm to women. For example, in 2018, New York gynecologist Robert Rho pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in the death of 30-year-old Jamie Morales, who bled to death following a botched abortion at six months of pregnancy. In 2019, Cuomo signed one of the nation’s most extreme abortion bills into law, expanding abortion on demand until birth.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
