Any votes to force taxpayers to fund abortion coverage will be decisive in SBA political decision-making in 2026
Washington, D.C. – Ahead of a House vote on House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ plan to continue the Obama-Biden legacy of taxpayer-funded abortion by reviving the expired Biden COVID-era Obamacare subsidies for three years, with no Hyde protections, SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser made the following statement:
“Abortion is not health care and the Hyde Amendment is non-negotiable to protect unborn children and taxpayers from forced funding of abortion on demand. This has been the consistent stance of the pro-life movement, backed by the strong consensus of Americans across partisan lines, for 50 years.
“We thank Speaker Johnson and House GOP leadership for continually reinforcing their commitment that no one should be forced to fund the destruction of innocent human lives. We have equal confidence in Leader Thune to stand strong against any retreat on Hyde, should such a plan ever reach the Senate. It is vital that every House and Senate Republican stand together against the Democrats’
“The pro-life base must never be taken for granted, but especially not in a midterm election year when turnout makes all the difference with close margins. Any and all votes to extend COVID-era Obamacare subsidies without Hyde protections will be a decisive factor in SBA Pro-Life America’s political engagement in both primaries and the general election in 2026.”
As of 2025, the Hyde Amendment is estimated to have saved more than 2.6 million lives. SBA Pro-Life America opposes any health care proposal that fails to include Hyde Amendment protections and will continue to score against any effort that forces Americans to pay for abortions or abortion coverage. In October, more than 100 pro-life groups sent a letter to Congress urging lawmakers to stop taxpayer funding of abortion through Obamacare.
Nearly 6 in 10 Americans, including 58% of Independents, oppose domestic taxpayer funding of abortion.
