Cassidy Spotlights Public Health Crisis Created by Mail-Order Abortion
Washington, D.C. – A Senate hearing led by Chairman Bill Cassidy (R-LA) this morning will expose the dangers of abortion drugs and how Joe Biden’s reckless mail-order policy is fueling a public health crisis. The U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions’ hearing will take place at 10:00 a.m. EDT and include testimony from Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill and Monique Chireau Wubbenhorst, M.D., M.P.H., FACOG, FAHA.
Abortions in the U.S. have increased this year under a remaining Biden policy that subverts the pro-life laws in 21 states. Biden’s Covid-era mail-order abortion policy removed basic standards on mifepristone that were in place during the first Trump administration like in-person doctor visits. Since then, women have come forward after being poisoned by abusers. In Ohio, a medical resident has been criminally indicted for obtaining abortion drugs online using his estranged wife’s name and force feeding them to his pregnant girlfriend.
17 Republican Attorneys General commended their colleague Liz Murrill and reminded Congress of the need for support to enforce their strong pro-life laws. They said:
“Abortion drugs not only end the lives of countless unborn children, but they also present a great threat to the health of the women who use them. We applaud Attorney General Murrill for her strong stance on this issue and for her brave testimony today.”
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser issued the following statement:
“We are grateful to Chairman Bill Cassidy for calling this important hearing to spotlight the public health crisis created by unfettered access to abortion drugs. The Biden COVID-era policy allowing abortion drugs in the mail with little to no medial oversight should’ve been rescinded on day one of the administration. Instead, nearly a year later, more unborn children die, more mothers end up in the ER, and more women and girls are poisoned or coerced into taking abortion drugs. Pro-life states are being completely undermined in their ability to enforce the laws that they passed. We are overdue for action. Women’s health and the lives of millions of Americans are truly on the line.”
Peer-reviewed research found three-quarters of ER visits within 30 days after abortion drug use were coded as severe or critical. Two separate, independent studies also found more than 1 in 10 women experience at least one severe adverse event. Complications can include hemorrhaging, infection, sepsis and even death.
A large national poll found 7 in 10 voters want to roll back Biden’s mail-order abortion drug rule and reinstate safeguards like in-person doctor visits.
