Washington, D.C. – As a part of their response to COVID-19, the governors of Ohio and Texas have issued directives to stop all non-essential surgeries in those states, including abortion on demand. In response to news that Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion business, is defying the directive in Ohio, Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) issued the following statement:

“While most of the country is taking extreme care and making real sacrifices to save lives, Planned Parenthood is doing the opposite – defying lawful directives and continuing to put abortion and profits before health and safety. In doing so, they are also contributing to deficits in our nation’s supply of personal protective equipment.  In addition, through surgical and chemical abortion, they are putting women at risk for complications that will further overwhelm hospital emergency rooms during this already trying time,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of Susan B. Anthony List.

“Abortion is not health care. We thank Ohio Governor DeWine and Attorney General Yost, as well as Texas Governor Abbott and Attorney General Paxton for insisting that abortion businesses comply with emergency regulations put in place to fight coronavirus. We stand with all leaders seeking to channel maximum support and resources for the legitimate health care providers working around the clock to combat COVID-19 and save lives.”

SBA List is a network of more than 837,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
