Washington, D.C. – Today SBA Pro-Life America’s Candidate Fund announced its endorsement of Governor Kim Reynolds (R-IA) for re-election.
“Governor Kim Reynolds is a fearless pro-life, pro-woman leader and we’re proud to count her as a longtime ally,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Gov. Reynolds has fought tirelessly for Iowans as the abortion lobby and activist judges seek to impose a virtually unlimited abortion ‘right’ on this pro-life state. Iowa voters, speaking through their legislature, want to protect unborn babies with beating hearts and ensure women are fully informed that abortion takes the life of a human being – her child. They deserve to debate and have their voice respected. At a moment when the U.S. Supreme Court could restore the right to protect unborn children and their mothers to all Americans, Gov. Reynolds is firmly on the side of the people and uniquely poised to lead Iowa into a pro-life future. We are thankful for all she has done and look forward to continuing this vital work together when she wins re-election.”
Reynolds is the first female governor of Iowa, holding office since 2017. One of her first acts was to sign Iowa’s Fetal Heartbeat bill into law. She later signed laws implementing waiting periods before an abortion can be performed and is a vocal advocate for a constitutional amendment to clarify that there is no right to abortion in Iowa. Reynolds was one of 12 governors to sign a pro-life amicus brief in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, in which the Supreme Court will assess whether pre-viability limits on abortion are constitutional.
Previously Reynolds served as lieutenant governor from 2011-2017, in the Iowa Senate from 2009-2010, and as Clarke County treasurer. She and her husband Kevin live in Terrace Hill and have three children and nine grandchildren.
