Washington, D.C. – America’s leading pro-life group released the following statement today on the 2023 election outcomes:
“The disappointing results in Ohio and Virginia are a reminder that human rights battles are not won overnight. Throughout history, great injustices have taken time and persistence to rectify. The Dobbs victory was an enormous breakthrough, but as with every other major shift in the status quo in our nation’s history, it will take time for the laws to reflect the reality of that decision. We must persevere in working to undo the abortion industry’s 50-year political monopoly and the deeply rooted lies abortion activists have sown to legitimize taking the lives of more than 63 million babies in the womb,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America.
“We are as committed as ever to our mission to save lives and serve women. More than anything, the election results underscore the dire need for a National Defender of Life who will advocate federal protections at least at a point when babies in the womb feel pain. Twenty-six states now fail to protect babies from painful late-term abortions, leaving no-limits abortion regimes that look more like North Korea and China than a nation founded on the unalienable right to life. Through litigation and deceptive ballot measures, Big Abortion will continue to spend millions to attack and roll back the consensus of the people in the other 24 states. In America, where you live should never determine whether you have the right to live. The pro-life movement will never tire or relent until babies and their mothers are protected from brutal abortions across our great nation.
“The true lesson from last night’s loss is that Democrats are going to make abortion front and center throughout 2024 campaigns. The GOP consultant class needs to wake up. Candidates must put money and messaging toward countering the Democrats’ attacks or they will lose every time.”
