Mail-order abortions on the rise as shady drug companies operate without oversight
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee Chairman Bill Cassidy, joined by Sens. Steve Daines, Lindsey Graham, Cindy Hyde-Smith, and James Lankford, sent investigative letters seeking information from three abortion drug manufacturers. Separately, they also sent the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) a new letter demanding immediate action on mail-order abortion drugs.
The investigation comes as a new report from a pro-abortion group claims over 1.1 million U.S. abortions in 2025, with 26% growth of mail-order drug abortions in states with laws protecting babies throughout pregnancy on the books.
- Letters to Danco Corporation, GenBioPro, Evita Solutions: These letters ask for information regarding vendors, audits of their certified prescribers, and explanations of why they direct consumers to online prescribers that do not comply with the FDA’s rules for high-risk drugs (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy, or REMS) and prescribe the drugs beyond the 10-week limit – when they are not approved and failures and complications increase dramatically.
- Letter to the FDA: This letter urges the FDA to investigate whether REMS requirements are being met and to act in all cases in which they are not, ensuring compliance on baseline health and safety standards.
SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser commented:
“Abortion numbers are up, not down after Dobbs, driven by mail-order drugs flooding the states without regard for their laws. We are now at over 1.1 million abortions per year. Chairman Cassidy and fellow pro-life senators are boldly confronting this crisis head-on, demanding real accountability and safety for women and girls. Abortion drug manufacturers are exploiting the reckless Biden-era COVID policy that opened the floodgates to potent abortion drugs sold online to anyone with a credit card and shipped by mail across state lines, without any in-person medical evaluation.
“Companies whose sole source of revenue is abortion drugs – which carry a black box warning – are raking in millions while their inherently risky, abuse-prone drug sends thousands of women to emergency rooms, enables abusers, systematically kills countless unborn children, and brazenly undermines democratically enacted state protections. Their disregard for even the few remaining safety standards, and the lack of transparency around these secretive entities, is deeply troubling.
“The Trump-Vance FDA has both the authority and the duty to act immediately, which voters across the board strongly support and which the GOP base demands.”
Last month, a nationwide survey conducted by Cygnal found that Republican primary voters overwhelmingly disapprove of allowing mail-order abortion drugs. Last fall, McLaughlin & Associates also found 7 in 10 likely voters – including 57% of liberal voters – approve of requiring a doctor visit to receive a prescription for abortion drugs.
