Speaker Johnson, Pro-Life Senators Emphasize Continuing the Fight for Unborn Children & Mothers After Dobbs
Washington, D.C. – Hundreds of pro-life Americans gathered for the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America gala Wednesday evening in Washington, D.C., where SBA President Marjorie Dannenfelser, House Speaker Mike Johnson and several U.S. senators addressed the pivotal moment for unborn children nationally.
In her speech, Dannenfelser said a “states-only” strategy stands no chance against the abortion lobby’s national plan to legalize all-trimester abortion in all 50 states. Recognizing the impact the next two elections will have on whether the pro-abortion or pro-life side prevails, she committed SBA to investing $160 million for the midterms and the next presidential election.
“These years will determine whether the Declaration of Independence – recognizing the God-given and inalienable right to life – will guide the future of this country, or whether our founding document will become a dead letter,” Dannenfelser said. “There is no in-between. As Abraham Lincoln, drawing on the words of Scripture, reminded us: a house divided against itself cannot stand. On human rights questions like these – questions of who counts as a person, and who deserves the law’s protection – America will end up either all one way or all the other. Either we will stop the spread of abortion and its life ending, life-changing, culture-crushing effects … and place it on the path to extinction, or the abortion lobby will push it forward until it is legal in all fifty states.”
In his remarks, Johnson reiterated his commitment to defunding Big Abortion in reconciliation and warned of the dire consequences of Democratic majorities in Congress.
Several senators highlighted America’s abortion drug crisis as the Trump-Vance FDA has continued a Biden administration policy allowing for the mail-order of mifepristone, which accounts for more than 60% of abortions and sends thousands of women to emergency rooms with serious, potentially life-threatening complications.

During the event, Dannenfelser awarded Elizabeth Gillette SBA’s Medal of Courage and Sacrifice for sharing her story of abortion drug coercion. When Gillette was unexpectedly pregnant in her early twenties, she faced pressure to abort her child from her boyfriend and Planned Parenthood. Despite being told it would be pain-free, Elizabeth experienced a painful labor alone in her home that led to terrible emotional and physical pain in the aftermath. She now shares her story to be a voice for the unborn and encourage women to choose life.
Dannenfelser also presented retiring Senator Steve Daines (R-MT), founder of the Senate Pro-Life Caucus, with the group’s Distinguished Leader Award.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
