A Day on the Hill: Getting to Know Congresswoman Mary Miller
By James Yeretzian
This summer, SBA Pro-Life America’s summer interns had the opportunity to meet with Representative Mary Miller from the 15th district of Illinois.
Despite having a demanding schedule while Congress was in session, Congresswoman Miller made time to sit down with myself and the other interns and discuss why we are passionate about life.
Jefferson Regitz, an SBA Intern, asked Congresswoman Miller about her interest in politics, and why she wanted to represent Illinois. Congresswoman Miller shared that she had no prior political experience or office before becoming a member of the House of Representatives. She was a teacher before she entered office, and she ran a farm with her husband, Chris. When former Congressman John Shmikus announced his retirement, Congresswoman Miller felt called to stand up for the farmers and agriculturists of Illinois. She stepped up to the plate in 2020 and won the seat with 70% of the vote. Congresswoman Miller still runs her family farm with her husband, Chris, and is one of the few family farmers serving in Congress.

Congresswoman Miller has voted consistently to protect the lives of the unborn and to stop forced taxpayer funding of abortion since she entered office in 2021, rightfully earning herself an A+ rating on our scorecard. One of Congresswoman Miller’s landmark votes was in support of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which cut federal funding to Big Abortion organizations like Planned Parenthood for one year. As co-chair of the Values Action Team and chair of the Family Caucus, Rep. Miller has been a steadfast champion for families and has led efforts to push back against the expansion of abortion drugs.
With 7 kids of her own, Congresswoman Miller understands greatly the joys of being a mother, but also the struggles of parenting. That’s why Congresswoman Miller is firmly pro-life and leaves no room for confusion on what constitutes a human life.
We are thankful for Congresswoman Mary Miller and her service in the House of Representatives!
