5 Democrats in Tight Midterm Races Who Support Abortion Until Birth That Pro-Lifers Can Defeat
By Tom Olohan
Extreme pro-abortion Democrats in state and federal races are working to end protections for the unborn.
Nationally, Democrats are working to flip four Senate seats to win a majority of the chamber. With just 51 votes, they could end the filibuster to close off debate and pass bills with a bare majority. House Democrats have released a “first 100 hours” agenda that includes legalizing all-trimester abortion in every state (the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act or WHPA, backed unanimously by Senate Democrats), and eliminating the Hyde Amendment to force taxpayers everywhere to fund elective abortions of healthy babies who feel pain. Research credits the Hyde Amendment with saving nearly 2.7 million lives.
Democrats have also nominated radical candidates in governor’s races across the country, pushing an abortion up to birth agenda on a number of red and purples states like Georgia, South Carolina, and Wisconsin.
This is why SBA Pro-Life America and its partner Women Speak Out PAC are putting $80 million behind an effort to mobilize voters and expose extreme pro-abortion candidates, while visiting 10.5 million voters in critical states this cycle. Here are five of the extreme Democrat candidates in close races that pro-lifers have the power to defeat this coming Election Day:
01
James Talarico
Texas Democratic Senate Nominee
02
Angie Nixon
Florida Democratic Senate Nominee
03
Sherrod Brown
Ohio Democratic Senate Nominee
04
David Crowley
Wisconsin Democratic Gubernatorial Nominee
05
Keisha Lance Bottoms
Georgia Democratic Gubernatorial Nominee
1Texas Democratic Senate Nominee James Talarico
James Talarico has opposed protecting children born alive after a botched abortion and fought to block or repeal crucial protections for the unborn in Texas. Talarico has repeatedly sought to undermine Texas’ abortion laws, including egregiously begging President Joe Biden to undermine Texas laws by making abortionists federal employees and putting abortion clinics on federal land.
Notably, Talarico makes a habit of twisting scripture to support his extreme pro-abortion positions during media appearances and sermons while framing those who protect the unborn as “Christian Nationalists” or people pushing “Christofascism.”
2Florida Democratic Senate Nominee Angie Nixon
Rep. Nixon is a member of Democratic Socialists of America and has been a reliable vote for the abortion lobby during her time in office as a state legislator in Florida. She supports abortion up to birth, opposing even protecting babies from being aborted over disabilities like Down syndrome.
Her appalling record also includes voting against a bill to show students the different stages of fetal development in the womb. Notably, a Democratic colleague of Nixon’s called out Democrats like Nixon for opposing this bill, saying that they were afraid that students would recognize the humanity and personhood of the unborn. Nixon herself has publicly fretted about the “devastating” impact of public recognition of the personhood of the unborn.
3Ohio Democratic Senate Nominee Sherrod Brown
Former Senator Sherrod Brown has an ugly and extreme pro-abortion record. Brown has twice voted against efforts to protect babies born alive after abortions since 2018, doing so in 2020 and 2021. Voters should also be aware that Brown supported two prior versions of the WHPA. Like the current version backed by most elected Democrats, both prior versions would allow abortion up to birth by giving the profiting abortionist discretion over when an unborn baby is protected. Separately, Brown voted against specific protections for the unborn at the 20-week mark or further into a pregnancy.
The former Ohio senator who afforded no rights to innocent babies, whether they were born and breathing survivors or fully grown healthy babies minutes from birth, unsurprisingly also voted to allow further abuse after they are dead. Planned Parenthood Action credits Brown with voting against an amendment to stop the sale and exploitation of aborted babies’ body parts.
And Brown doesn’t just support legal abortion up to birth, he wants to make Americans pay for it. Brown fought for government-funded abortions on numerous occasions, incredibly voting against an attempt to reverse the Biden administration’s decision to have the Department of Veterans Affairs actually kill unborn babies. Brown even opposed an amendment to prohibit the government from funding the abortion of babies with Down syndrome, defending the use of taxpayer dollars to aid eugenicist purges of innocent disabled lives. Planned Parenthood also credits Brown with opposing efforts to ensure that taxpayer dollars did not fund abortion.
4Wisconsin Democratic Gubernatorial Nominee David Crowley
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley makes a habit of inartfully pushing the abortion lobby’s talking points in response to questions about his position on abortion. Crowley refuses to name any restrictions on abortion he supports repeatedly claiming that abortion is between a woman and her doctor, while refusing to own up to supporting abortion up to birth.
For example, when a reporter questioned whether he supports abortion up to birth, Crowley flatly denied it. Asked the obvious follow-up, “So you don’t want abortion unlimited up to nine months. But what is the cutoff for you?” — he retreated to the standard talking point: the decision should be left between a woman and her doctor. Pressed yet again, he replied, “You should probably ask a doctor that,” then added, “I don’t know anything.”
5Georgia Democratic Gubernatorial Nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms
Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has gone as far as promising to veto any protections for unborn babies if elected, while attacking pregnancy resource centers that save lives and support women. The former mayor has made clear that as governor she would be a dead end for protecting the unborn and helping women. She has won the support of the abortion lobby for her campaign for governor, a major threat to Georgia’s existing laws protecting the unborn and supporting women.
Sadly, these five are not outliers but are representative of the de facto position of today’s Democratic Party which supports abortion at any point in pregnancy. SBA Pro-Life America and WSO PAC are working so voters know how extreme the Democrats have become by highlighting the records of these Democrats and several others including:
