What is it like to intern at Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America? On this National Intern Day, our summer interns are telling their own stories—from memorable projects and lessons learned, to the impact they’re making along the way.

Jefferson Regitz interns with our Government Affairs department and is a rising sophomore at Hillsdale College. Jefferson previously canvassed for SBA in the fall of 2025 as part of our Student Canvassing program. But his initial conviction for defending the vulnerable has not changed:

“When I first learned about what abortion was, I remember being so disturbed that that it existed. More disturbed than anything else in the world. I believe very strongly that it is the human rights catastrophe of our time. And so, honestly, my conviction comes from a passion of wanting to help the vulnerable and those who cannot help themselves.”

Indeed, abortion is the #1 killer in the United States, blowing cardiovascular disease out of the water with over 1.1 million abortions from 2023 to 2024

Jefferson has a multifaceted position: on the federal affairs side, he researches candidates in primaries across the country. Finding candidates who align with SBA’s values is key to preserving a pro-life majority in the House and the Senate in the upcoming midterms.

“You’re not being put on the sidelines, on a bench, just answering phone calls or sending emails or doing print work or cleaning up the office space. You are helping the mission. You are meeting the overarching goals,” he told me.

Jefferson also helps evaluate current members of Congress on the SBA Pro-Life Scorecard. Our scorecard takes a holistic view of members of Congress and grades their votes and overall stance on pro-life legislation.

Ava-Marie Cheeseman and Bridget Hays intern with the Charlotte Lozier Institute, the most reliable source for peer reviewed, data driven research on abortion, its impact on women, and human development.

Ava-Marie and Bridget’s work is largely made up of tracking updates on abortion drugs and assisting with research. Most people are not overly excited about research positions; however, Ava-Marie and Bridget’s experiences differ from an average research position:

“I think I have a more vested role in the results of my work because what I work on, such as scientific legal literature, is something that I very well may read again in the future.”

SBA interns are not cooped up in their cubicles all day, either; every intern gets the opportunity to network and meet high-profile leaders during the internship program.

“We’ve gotten a lot of cool opportunities that I wouldn’t have expected or known about otherwise. One week, our internship coordinator told us, “You’re going with the Government Affairs team to the Capitol to meet Representative Mary Miller.”

SBA’s Communications Team is heavily focused on equipping young pro-life Americans with the tools they need to reach the culture with the pro-life message and combat the lies of the Big Abortion lobby.

 “I think it is absolutely ridiculous that there are people that are advocating for ending the lives of children, young children, who are the most vulnerable and the most innocent in the eyes of God. And my faith convictions have brought me to be a voice in their life movement. So that is what I’m going to fight for and what I’ll dedicate my life to.”

That’s Trista Lynn Brown. Trista Lynn is a rising senior at Clemson University, and she interns with our Communications department. This summer, that included meeting with abortion drug victims and documenting their meetings with Members of Congress. Trista Lynn is very outspoken on the horrors of abortion and the right to life. She currently serves as president of Tigers for Life on her college campus and regularly posts pro-life content on her own social media pages. However, her story began much earlier, when she was barely 10 years old:

“I had never heard of abortion until a woman came to my church to speak on it. I was in utter shock and knew I had to do something about it; I just didn’t know what. But the Lord put a seed in my heart at that moment.”

We asked current employees around the office their thoughts on the summer interns:

“They bring so much life and energy to the office. I think all the interns are very social and that draws other people in.”  Christian Rubio, Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Federal Affairs.

 “I think it’s encouraging for all staff members because it’s a new type of excitement, and it’s a reminder of why they’re doing what they’re doing.” Libby Bova, Internship Supervisor and Onboarding Manager.

Our interns are grateful for full-time employees pouring into them, and our full-time employees are thankful for the fresh wind of passion for life in the office.
