As the U.S. Supreme Court began hearing oral arguments on March 26 in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine and Danco v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, petitions in the landmark case in which a group of doctors are challenging the FDA’s reckless approval of mail-order abortion drugs, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser spoke at the #WomensHealthMatters rally in front of the Court. Below are her remarks as prepared for delivery.

To the women and girls of this nation, to good feminists everywhere and to our opponents on the issue of abortion… please listen.

We should be able to agree on one thing and work together to secure it. That is the health and safety of women self aborting, alone and in the shadows of our communities.

We certainly don’t have complete agreement among us upon the fact that there are two patients in every pregnancy. But we can at least pledge ourselves to one patient —the woman receiving abortion drugs in the mail in her home without necessary pre-exams, increasing her risk of hemorrhage, infection, an ER VISIT and that she will be exploited by a man in her life. She has become her own abortionist in her own home unsafe abortion center.

She deserves our focused attention today.

This requires that the ideological commitment to abortion as an institution must give way to a commitment to serve her.

And THIS requires that she be SEEN.

Women like Elizabeth, Kelly, and Leslie who were alone, traumatized by severe pain, bleeding, and – panicked – ended up flushing their tiny babies down the toilet. (They and others are telling their stories, most of which involve pressure or coercion. We have them on our website, sbaprolife.org.)

The FDA broke the law and its own rules when it removed virtually every safety standard, ignoring these women’s need for in-person doctor visits and ongoing care when taking dangerous abortion drugs.

Every woman and woman’s organization in this country should come together and demand that the FDA stop its politics and we together must insist: “FDA, DO YOUR JOB.”
