On April 11, SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser traveled to Jacksonville, Florida to meet with over 100 pro-life advocates at a regional event, sponsored by two generous supporters, Carol and Brigid.
Ahead of the evening reception, Marjorie and other SBA team members had the privilege to visit local pregnancy resource centers and homes to witness firsthand to the many ways the people of Jacksonville are committed to serving women and saving babies.
Members of SBA Pro-Life America spent the afternoon meeting with the director of Divine Mercy House, Amy Woodward, and received a tour of the home. Amy shared how they just underwent renovations to the home to make it beautiful for the women and children they serve. This is just one way that Divine Mercy House serves the women they encounter with dignity and care.
Later in the evening, pro-lifers from across northern Florida gathered at the University of North Florida for a reception followed by programming featuring Marjorie, Advisor to the President Jim Ducey, and VP of Public Policy Autumn Christensen. Jim, Marjorie, and Autumn participated in an engaging panel and Q&A that spoke about our plans for 2024 and the fight for life in Florida.
Several of our close congressional allies in Florida were unable to attend due to Congress being in session, but we were grateful to have Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott and Congresswoman Kat Cammack share virtual remarks, applauding the work of SBA Pro-Life America and thanking Marjorie for her leadership.
Unborn children who can feel pain will remain protected and a law protecting babies with a heartbeat will go into effect on May 1 following the Florida Supreme Court’s ruling on April 1.
But both of these life-saving measures are now threatened by a proposed constitutional amendment to enshrine all-trimester abortion that will be on Florida’s ballot this November under a second ruling that came from the court that afternoon.
