Roy & Dannenfelser: Biden supports taxpayer-funded abortions, defies will of Americans
“Ensuring rights and choices for all since 1969” — this is the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)’s slogan for their 2021 annual report. Scattered throughout its 164 pages are ambiguous words such as “choice,” “autonomy” and “control” that conceal the organization’s true goal: expanding abortion on demand.
In this goal, they are abetted by a Biden administration that seeks a major funding increase to UNPFA in its first budget proposal as further payback to the abortion industry that spent millions to elect him. An international cabal run by pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes International applauds President Joe Biden for working to expand abortion on demand worldwide, subsidized by American taxpayers, even against the wishes of countries that choose to protect life.
The publicly stated goal of the UNFPA is to “deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.” In reality, the UNFPA openly partners with some of the worst human rights abusers, including North Korea, Iran, and China — all while receiving millions of dollars a year from the U.S. government, since Mr. Biden rolled back the Trump-Pence administration’s funding ban.
In China, the UNFPA is listed on official documents as a partner with the National Health Commission, the agency responsible for implementing the government’s infamous population control policies (now updated to permit three children per couple instead of one or two). As recently as 2019, the UNFPA bragged about its work to enhance “reproductive health” in the Xinjiang region. Similar language has appeared in state propaganda. The truth is, coerced abortion and sterilization have reduced the birth rate in that region by almost half, according to a 2021 report. That’s millions of children eliminated by abortion who will never see the light of day, and countless women and girls violated at the hands of regimes working hand in glove with the UNFPA.
Americans of all stripes are deeply troubled by these reports. Already, 77% of Americans including a majority of rank-and-file Democrats oppose the use of tax dollars to promote abortion overseas. There’s no question those dollars should not be sent abroad to support genocide. Clearly, President Trump was right to block funding for the UNFPA by invoking the Kemp-Kasten Amendment, which redirects funding to life-affirming foreign aid groups that assist women and children. Presidents Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush did the same before him.
