AG Murrill: “The reality on the ground is striking”
Washington, D.C. – The State of Louisiana, led by Attorney General Liz Murrill, and Rosalie Markezich, a survivor of abortion drug coercion, filed a new lawsuit this week calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to withdraw the Biden administration’s illegal mail-order abortion drug policy. The suit cites the policy for harming women, ending the lives of countless unborn children, and undermining efforts by states like Louisiana to enforce protective pro-life laws.
Markezich is speaking out about how the Biden mail-order policy enables abuse, saying, “Had the FDA required an in-person visit with a doctor before dispensing the drugs, my boyfriend would never [have] been able to obtain the drugs that he made me take … and I would have told the doctor that I wanted to keep my baby.” Louisiana has issued an arrest warrant for the doctor in California who allegedly shipped abortion drugs to Markezich’s boyfriend.
Last year Louisiana enacted the Catherine and Josephine Herring Act making it a crime to poison women with abortion drugs. Catherine Herring, a domestic violence survivor, shared her experience in a call hosted by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America on Wednesday.
SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser issued the following statement:
“There are crucial steps the FDA must take to immediately to protect Americans and restore confidence. First, reinstate safeguards from the first Trump administration that put in-person doctor visits and proper follow-up back in the process. Second, commence the study of the harms of abortion drugs that has been promised for months. Ultimately, life-ending drugs do not make America healthy or great and there should be none on the market. At a minimum, we urge the FDA to act now to stop the flood of mail-order drugs and not delay another day.
“Women and children are suffering from Biden’s cruel mail-order abortion drug scheme. The last thing they need is an expansion of cheap, new abortion drugs flooding every state, undermining pro-life laws enacted since Dobbs. We thank Attorney General Murrill for her heroic efforts to keep people safe. She and her fellow pro-life Republican state attorneys general are doing all they can to stop out-of-state abortion drug dealers, but we know they are asking for and deserve help from Washington. Courageous women like Rosalie and Catherine are also speaking out about the trauma and injustice of coerced abortion and their real-world experiences need to be heard.”
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
