Flipping of the Senate Enables Advancement of the SBA Listâs Top Legislative Priority, Protecting Babies after Five Months
WASHINGTON, D.C. â Tonight the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) declares victory as Republicans gain control of the U.S. Senate, paving the way for a vote on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
The SBA List and its partner, Women Speak Out PAC, spent $5 million on key Senate races and was victorious in Arkansas, North Carolina, Iowa, and Kansas. The groupâs historic field operation to turn out pro-life voters will expand for the Louisiana run-off election where we expect to win on December 6.
âTonightâs overwhelming victory for pro-life candidates signals the fact that the bottom has fallen out of the abortion-centered âwar on womenâ strategy,â said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. âWe are encouraged with the new pro-life Senate and look forward to a vote on our top legislative priority, the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This compassionate, popular legislation will protect the lives of more than 18,000 unborn children per year.â
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who won his re-election earlier this evening, previously pledged that if his party won the majority, he would advance a vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The legislation is supported by the majority of Americans â women in higher numbers than men.
This election cycle, the SBA Listâs Women Speak Out PAC launched the largest ever pro-life door-to-door and phone call effort to impact three races critical to building a Senate majority and kicking Harry Reid out of power â Arkansas, North Carolina, and Louisiana. The group also conducted a last push grassroots campaign in Kansas and launched a persuasive voter mail program to micro-targeted voter groups, including Democratic women, in Iowa. By Election Day, a team of more than 700 field representatives had reached more than 900,000 pro-life voters who typically do not vote in midterm elections. A complete By the Numbers fact sheet is available here.
The Susan B. Anthony List and its Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, spent $15.25 million in the 2014 election cycle to defeat pro-abortion incumbents and elect pro-life candidates to federal and statewide office. The SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
