SBA List Spent Half a Million on Persuasive Voter Contact Mail

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tonight the national pro-life Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) declared victory when pro-life Joni Ernst defeated pro-abortion Rep. Bruce Braley in Iowa’s U.S. Senate race. The SBA List spent nearly $500,000 on a persuasive voter mail program to micro-targeted voter groups not traditionally exposed to the pro-life message, including Democratic women.

“Joni Ernst’s victory tonight is proof that the abortion-centered ‘war on women’ message fails. A military veteran and longtime public servant, Joni has a consistent record of defending and protecting life. She refused to back down from her strong pro-life record,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Not only did Iowa voters see through Braley’s attacks, they flat out rejected his abortion extremism.”

Congressman Bruce Braley has a 100 percent pro-abortion record in Congress and has even voted against the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, modest legislation to protect babies after five months.

“SBA List went on offense in Iowa to take advantage of this critical opportunity to add a third pro-life woman’s voice to the U.S. Senate,” continued Dannenfelser. “Joni Ernst has been an exceptional pro-life leader in the Iowa State Senate and we know she will continue leading for life in Washington. Her victory puts us over the threshold to advance a vote on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.”

Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has pledged that if his party is in the majority next Congress, he will advance a vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This compassionate, modest legislation to stop abortion after five months is the SBA List’s top legislative priority. The measure is supported by the majority of Americans – women in higher numbers than men.

This election cycle, the SBA List’s Women Speak Out PAC launched the largest ever pro-life door-to-door and phone call effort to impact three races critical to building a Senate majority and kicking Harry Reid out of power – Arkansas, North Carolina, and Louisiana. By Election Day, a team of more than 700 field representatives had reached more than 900,000 pro-life voters who typically do not vote in midterm elections. A complete By the Numbers fact sheet is available here.

The Susan B. Anthony List and its Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, spent $15.25 million in the 2014 election cycle to defeat pro-abortion incumbents and elect pro-life candidates to federal and statewide office. The SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
