Karen has the Intellectual Heft & Breadth of Experience to Provide Inspirational Leadership
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Georgia U.S. Senate candidate David Perdue is coming under fire for criticizing fellow candidate Karen Handel for lacking a college degree. In a video released last week, Perdue denounced Handel for having received only a high school education before becoming a successful business woman and leader.
This morning the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund took issue with Perdue’s remarks:
“Mr. Perdue has provided our endorsed candidate an excellent moment. Now everyone is taking a look at the remarkable path that Karen Handel has taken. Most of us know someone who has taken an unorthodox path to success. Those individuals, like Karen Handel, often turn out to be our brightest stars,” said SBA List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Anyone who has spoken with Karen for more than 5 minutes understands that she has the intellectual heft and breadth of experience to provide inspirational leadership in the U.S. Senate.
“Karen became a successful businesswoman and worked tirelessly to become Georgia’s first Republican Secretary of State. She championed women suffering with breast cancer at the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. She also boldly stood up to the bullying behavior of abortion giant Planned Parenthood. Karen Handel is a profile in courage and her life story should evoke respect, not mockery.”
Karen Handel was elected as Georgia’s first Republican Secretary of State in 2006. Prior to serving in an elected office, Handel was Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Sonny Perdue. She is the former Vice President of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the author of the book Planned Bullyhood: The Truth Behind the Headlines about the Planned Parenthood Funding Battle with Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Handel was serving as Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Senior Vice President of Public Policy when the organization decided, and then later reversed its decision to end grants to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood is America’s largest abortion provider and does not provide mammograms.
The Susan B. Anthony List and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women at all levels of government. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
