Nat’l Pro-life Group Reached 65,000 Voters to Elect Handel & Defeat Jon Ossoff

Washington, D.C. — Tonight the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) celebrated as its endorsed candidate Karen Handel won in Georgia’s sixth congressional district special election. Handel defeated Planned Parenthood-backed Democrat Jon Ossoff.

Prior to Election Day, SBA List contacted 65,000 inconsistent voters who are pro-life through mail, phone calls, and digital advertising. The digital ad campaign presented voters with an ad created by Georgia Life Alliance Action. Ahead of the primary, SBA List also contacted more than 25,000 voters in the district with three pieces of hard-hitting voter contact mail.

“We congratulate pro-life champion Karen Handel on her historic victory tonight. Although America’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood, spent six figures in support of her opponent Jon Ossoff, Karen’s record of courageous leadership won the day,” said SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser. “In the weeks before the election, SBA List contacted tens of thousands of inconsistent voters in Georgia’s sixth district to impress upon them the importance of this race. We are encouraged that the voters rejected Ossoff’s extreme pro-abortion agenda and are sending Karen Handel to Washington to stand up for women and children and get taxpayers out of the abortion business.”

Karen Handel was Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Sonny Perdue before being elected as Georgia’s first female Secretary of State in 2006. She is the former Vice President of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the author of the book Planned Bullyhood: The Truth Behind the Headlines about the Planned Parenthood Funding Battle with Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Handel resigned from her position as Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Senior Vice President of Public Policy after the organization reversed its decision to end grants to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood is America’s largest abortion provider and does not provide mammograms.

Susan B. Anthony List and its partner super PAC, Women Speak Out spent more than $18 million in the 2016 election cycle, knocking on more than 1.1 million doors in battleground states to defeat Hillary Clinton and maintain a pro-life Senate. SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 465,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
