Dannenfelser: “It is vital that members of Congress register their stance on these issues by substantive votes and that the American people be fully informed as to the stakes involved.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. –This afternoon Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) released the following statement concerning Congressional response to the Center for Medical Progress videos. The following is attributable to SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser:

“Over the long summer just concluded, two facts of supreme importance to public policy on the issue of life have become clear.  First, it is now obvious how deeply Planned Parenthood has entwined itself in the provision and promotion of abortion on request at all stages of pregnancy.  Second, revelations about this profound tie, thoroughly documented by the Center for Medical Progress videos detailing a massive trade in the organs of aborted children, have yet to be seen by millions of American taxpayers – and even by the President and some members of Congress.

“Because of these facts, as well as rapid evolution in the underlying science of maternal-fetal medicine, Congress now has two distinct tasks before it.  In the name of our sense of common decency, we must put an end to horrific abortions that inflict pain on the developing babies in the womb who are daily torn apart in abortion facilities across the United States.  Second, we must ensure that no taxpayer funds are sent to an enterprise that has relentlessly increased its commitment to expanding abortion and profiting from the gruesome work of extracting the brains, lungs, livers, thymuses, and other remains of our brothers and sisters before birth.

“Toward these ends, Susan B. Anthony List endorses and supports prompt U.S. Senate consideration and passage of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (S. 1553), introduced by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).  In the same manner, we endorse and support immediate passage of legislation, including any continuing resolution, so long as it ensures not a single penny of taxpayer dollars goes to Planned Parenthood. We will continue to pursue any and all other means at our disposal, at both the state and federal level, to achieve this defunding.  Finally, we continue to support legislation that fully funds alternatives to Planned Parenthood’s evil enterprise, offering women the health care services they need without subjecting them to the brutal deceptions of abortion and baby organ harvesting.

“It is vital that members of Congress register their stance on these issues by substantive votes and that the American people be fully informed as to the stakes involved.  It is equally vital that President Obama make clear whether and why he believes the U.S. government has no higher priority than guaranteeing the abortion industry that they can continue the slaughter and piecemeal sale of the unborn without losing a drop of their federal revenue stream.

“This debate, though relatively small amidst the immense sums spent every day by our national government, speaks to the heart of American principles.  It is a debate well worth having.  No matter how the votes of the Senate and House alike turn out over the coming days, we pledge to carry the issues involved into 2016 when the people will once again have a chance to change course and to choose an Administration with new priorities.  We will do everything in our power to ensure that the course America chooses is to affirm life and protect the weakest and most vulnerable among us.”

The Susan B. Anthony List and its Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, spent $15.25 million in the 2014 election cycle to defeat pro-abortion incumbents and elect pro-life candidates to federal and statewide office. The SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
