Broad Protections Were Set to Take Effect After Passing With Overwhelming Support
Washington, D.C. – A county district judge in Wyoming has temporarily blocked Wyoming’s new law that broadly protects unborn children and their mothers, which was set to take effect Wednesday following the Dobbs Supreme Court decision.
H.R. 92 passed with overwhelming majorities in the Wyoming Legislature during the 2022 session and was signed into law by Republican Governor Mark Gordon.
North Dakota’s law was enacted in 2007 and was also temporarily blocked by a state judge when the abortion lobby sued. The law has been recertified by North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley and can take effect August 26.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America responded in a statement:
“We are disappointed in these flawed rulings that side with the radical abortion lobby. Citizens in Wyoming and North Dakota have made it clear they want to protect unborn children and their mothers from the violence of abortion, and that is exactly what the states’ pro-life laws do,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Broad protections for unborn human life passed with overwhelming margins in the state legislature this year, were signed into law and were set to begin saving life this week. In the Dobbs era, the right of the people to speak through their elected representatives and to make life-related policy for themselves must be respected.
“We stand with our allies in Wyoming and North Dakota who have worked so hard to make the laws reflect the will of the people. Governors Burgum and Gordon are committed pro-life leaders and we’re confident they will act on the will of the people and keep fighting to protect unborn babies and moms.”
Since the Dobbs decision, at least a dozen states have taken action to protect life. SBA Pro-Life America has launched an interactive map to track life-saving laws in the states and the estimated number of abortions impacted.
A new Charlotte Lozier Institute legal and medical analysis shows that all 23 states with strong pro-life laws currently on the books allow necessary and timely medical treatment for miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, and other procedures necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman.
