Dannenfelser: Address Abortion Drugs and Recommit to the Hyde Amendment
Washington, D.C. – Ahead of the 53rd March For Life in Washington, D.C., Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser issued the following statement:
“As pro-lifers prepare to converge from across the country on the National Mall, we hope this pro-life administration will address the two most important and pressing priorities of the movement: action on abortion drugs and a recommitment to the Hyde Amendment. We are glad the Trump-Vance Administration announced new pro-life policies this morning including a major expansion of the Mexico City policy and ending the funding of research that uses fetal tissue. However, abortion drugs and the forced taxpayer funding of abortion are the most urgent issues affecting the lives of hundreds of thousands.
“Despite the horrifying stories of women being poisoned with abortion drugs and red states begging for action, the Trump-Vance Administration has not reversed Joe Biden’s Covid policy allowing for the mail-order of the drugs. This is making state pro-life laws completely unenforceable – undermining Trump’s ‘back to the states’ position – and the biggest driver behind the number of abortions going up, not down since the Dobbs decision. At the same time, President Trump has suggested the GOP be ‘flexible’ on the Hyde Amendment, which for decades has been an unshakeable bedrock principle and minimum standard in the GOP that prevents taxpayer-funded abortion.
“The March For Life is the moment for this administration and the GOP to recommit to its promises on Life. They must stand firm on these basic pro-life tenets or depress the base and risk losing the midterms.”
This morning the White House announced the following new pro-life policies:
- A major expansion of the Mexico City policy to include U.S.-based NGOs operating overseas (in addition to foreign nongovernmental NGOs and international organizations receiving U.S. assistance)
- A Small Business Administration review of whether Planned Parenthood illegally received $88 million in Covid loans
- The end to funding research that uses aborted baby tissue, expanded from the first Trump administration to include NIH-supported extramural research
- Taking action to enforce conscience protections in Illinois as the state is forcing all medical professionals to refer for abortions
Last fall, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America (SBA) and Women Speak Out PAC (WSO) announced an $80 million investment in the 2026 midterms to reach 10.5 million voters across the country and retain pro-life majorities in the U.S. House and Senate. SBA Pro-Life America has the largest pro-life voter contact program in the country. Since 2016, SBA Pro-Life America’s field program has reached 31.2 million voters through 15.4 million visits to voter homes from 3,434 canvassers; digital advertising; and voter contact mail, texts and phone calls.
As of 2025, the Hyde Amendment is estimated to have saved more than 2.6 million lives. A majority of Americans oppose domestic taxpayer funding of abortion. Another national poll found 7 in 10 voters want to roll back Biden’s mail-order abortion drug rule and reinstate safeguards like in-person doctor visits.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
