Washington, D.C. – In a new video released today ahead of President Trump’s State of the Union address, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser gives her assessment of the “State of the Unborn” in 2026, calling on the Trump-Vance administration and GOP leaders to stand firm on the Hyde Amendment and tackle the crisis of mail-order abortion drugs that is fueling hundreds of thousands of American deaths a year.
Key points of Dannenfelser’s speech include:
- The victories and growth of the pro-life movement to date, including rising pro-life identification among young adults
- The sobering reality that abortions have gone up since Dobbs, and what is causing it
- Shocking statistics on deaths from abortion drugs
- The political peril of abandoning pro-life principles and urgent need for the GOP to act
- What gives pro-life advocates hope for the future

A nationwide survey conducted by Cygnal finds Republican primary voters overwhelmingly disapprove of allowing mail-order abortion drugs and back pro-life policies like the Hyde Amendment. One-third of those voters would be less enthusiastic about voting in November and less willing to volunteer if GOP leaders abandon pro-life policies.
Meanwhile, today a federal district court will hold a hearing in Louisiana v. FDA. The State of Louisiana, led by Attorney General Liz Murrill, and abortion drug coercion survivor Rosalie Markezich are suing the FDA based on the harms mifepristone has caused their residents and the fact that current FDA policy allowing mail-order abortion undermines dozens of state laws.
Dannenfelser added:
“Pro-life leaders in the states are in the trenches, seeing the harm wrought by Biden’s Covid-era mail-order abortion drug rule every day as babies die and women are poisoned. The FDA could end this madness any time – yet it refuses. Attorney General Liz Murrill is a hero in this fight for justice, but she is not alone, with a large and growing number of allies across the country and in Congress raising their voices.
“Pro-life voters across the country are also watching. We hope President Trump will provide assurance in his State of the Union address that he sees what is happening in the states—the abuse of women and children, the lawlessness of Democrats like Gavin Newsom who are protecting drug dealers, and the erosion of the legacy of his first administration—and that he will not tolerate it any longer.”
Sixty Republican U.S. senators and representatives and 21 Republican attorneys general filed amicus briefs supporting Louisiana in the case. Fifty-one senators and 175 representatives previously called on the FDA and HHS to reinstate commonsense safeguards on abortion drugs.
The U.S. Department of Justice has asked the court to deny relief for a year or potentially longer, pending a safety study of mifepristone promised by FDA Commissioner Marty Makary.
Peer-reviewed research found three quarters of ER visits within 30 days after abortion drug use were coded as severe or critical.
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
