Washington, DC ─ Today the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, announced its endorsement of Cherilyn Eagar for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District.

“This is a unique opportunity to support a proven pro-life woman leader for Utah’s second district,” said Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Cherilyn has been an advocate for the protection of women, the unborn, and the family on national and international levels, for many years. The SBA List Candidate Fund is proud to endorse Cherilyn Eagar for Congress and looks forward to having her voice for Life in Washington.”

Eagar is running in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District, an open seat vacated by Rep. Jim Matheson who is now running in Utah’s newly created 4th Congressional District. Cherilyn’s pro-life work began at the United Nations where she served as a delegate at the 1977 United Nations International Women’s Year Conference in Illinois. In addition to fighting against the Equal Rights Amendment and for the defunding of Planned Parenthood, Eagar led a successful campaign in 1989 to stop school-based clinics from abortion counseling without parental consent. Her commitment to women and the unborn has since grown to include numerous UN conferences, national political conferences and statewide efforts including support and development of relevant legislation.

The Utah Republican State Nominating Convention will be held on April 21 and the state primary will be held on June 26.

During the 2010 election cycle, SBA List spent $11 million and was involved in 90 races, 62 of which resulted in victories. Successes included: defeating 15 of 20 so-called “pro-life” Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care reform bill, increasing the number of pro-life women in the House by 70 percent, filling the void of pro-life women in the U.S. Senate and increasing the number of pro-life women governors from one to four.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of more than 365,000 Americans dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics.  Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.
