Liberal Justices Smack Down Democrat AG’s Political Vendetta Against Life-Affirming Pregnancy Centers

Washington, D.C. – In a unanimous decision, this morning the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a major victory for life and freedom of speech in First Choice Women’s Resource Centers, Inc. v. Davenport. The case was brought by pregnancy centers that have faced targeted harassment from government officials over the fact that they do not offer abortions, even as they provide millions of dollars a year in free services for women, children, and families.

Former New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin and his office attempted to force pregnancy centers to hand over private donor information, as well as coordinating with Planned Parenthood – America’s largest abortion business – to issue a so-called “consumer alert” targeting pregnancy centers with false and unsubstantiated accusations.

The Supreme Court held unanimously that First Choice has standing to challenge the affront to its First Amendment rights.

“This is huge win for all Americans who stand with mothers and babies and know that, yes, we CAN love them both,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Pregnancy centers across America provide hundreds of millions’ worth of vital services a year for women, children and families, typically at no charge and frequently as volunteers. Unlike the abortion industry, they don’t profit from violence and harm, including the harm of abortion drugs that fuel coercion and abuse and send thousands of women to the emergency room each year. Even the Court’s left-leaning justices recognized the far-reaching chill AG Platkin’s weaponization of government would have on all Americans’ cherished freedoms.

“Matthew Platkin, sadly, is not alone. From blue state attorneys general to members of Congress to presidential candidates like Kamala Harris, Democrats across the country have pursued a political vendetta against these crucial safety net providers – seeking to shut them down because they want no part in brutal abortions. These political attacks have poured fuel on scores of violent physical attacks, vandalism and firebombing. Democrats have even tried to outlaw life-saving Abortion Pill Reversal, which has helped thousands of women who regretted taking abortion drugs save their babies. This is a party that’s dropped all pretense of being ‘pro-choice’ – they are openly pro-abortion. We voters must stay vigilant and make sure these pro-abortion extremists do not get into positions of power in the first place.”

Marist/Knights of Columbus polling finds 84% of Americans support pregnancy centers, including three quarters of Democrats, 85% of Independents, and 80% of those who self-identify as pro-choice. A Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) analysis found 2,775 pregnancy centers across America provided over $452 million in total medical care, support and education services, and material goods in 2024 – seeing over 1 million new clients, with a 98% client satisfaction rate.

This decisive victory from the Supreme Court ensures these life-affirming pregnancy centers can continue to serve women, men, and families. CLI’s latest pregnancy center report shows demand for pregnancy centers have only grown, due to the love, education, and support they provide to those in need. I’m thrilled to see their essential mission continue without being undermined by bullies.”

The court saw this for what it was – a fishing expedition designed to intimidate Americans who offer real support for women every day. Charities should be able to serve the vulnerable in freedom, not fear. Today, the Supreme Court upheld that right.”
