Extremist MI Governor Nixes Funds for Pregnancy & Health Centers That Voters Overwhelmingly Support
Washington, D.C. – Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America today condemned Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s plan to veto millions of dollars in funding for abortion alternatives from the state budget. The group’s Candidate Fund recently endorsed Tudor Dixon in the governor’s race.
Whitmer’s veto comes amid an unprecedented wave of attacks on pro-life organizations and threats from Democrats to “shut down” pregnancy centers nationwide. SBA Pro-Life America has documented more than 80 incidents of pro-abortion vandalism, violence and intimidation since the Dobbs opinion was leaked.
“Pro-abortion Democrats like Governor Whitmer show their true extremism in ‘cracking down’ on pregnancy centers, which provide a multitude of resources for women and families that the profit-driven abortion industry just doesn’t offer,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Women in Michigan have real choices, as nearly 200 pregnancy and health centers across the state outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities 13 to one. The average client satisfaction rate of pregnancy centers is over 99%, and voters overwhelmingly support these nonprofits – including rank-and-file Democrats and pro-choice voters.
Charlotte Lozier Institute recently released a full analysis and map that shows pregnancy centers and community-based health clinics outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities 14 to 1 across the United States.
Dannenfelser continued, “Instead of supporting life-saving alternatives, Whitmer and other radical Democrats would rather keep taxpayer dollars flowing to the abortion lobby that is spending $150 million to get them elected. Their deeply unpopular agenda will have consequences at the ballot box.”
Previously in 2021 SBA Pro-Life America launched a six-figure digital ad campaign exposing Whitmer’s abortion extremism. This election cycle, SBA Pro-Life America and its entities plan to spend $78 million to protect life across America.
