Marlene Downing

Iowa State Director

Marlene’s compassion for women facing unexpected pregnancies is deeply personal.

She carries a post-abortive story of her own, and she loves to share how God changed her life, her views on abortion, and ignited a resolve to protect the unborn.

In 2017, after nearly a decade in corporate finance, she became the Director of Operations for the HOPE Pregnancy Center in Philadelphia. There, she counseled hundreds of women considering abortion and reached young people with the message of purity. Marlene organized conferences on healing and youth purity, and hosted workshops to comfort and educate families. She ended her tenor as Executive Director after four years at the PRC.

Marlene joined SBA in 2021, and recently became the Iowa State Director, trailblazing a new field program in the state.

She is a mother of two, recipient of the James D. Kelly Pioneer Award by the Pro-Life Union of Greater Philadelphia, and author of “Strange Fruit Since 1973 – Personhood rejected from the family tree.”
