Women Harmed by Mifepristone Urge Rollback of Biden-Era Rule

Washington, D.C. – Attorneys general of Louisiana, Alabama and Arkansas announced today they are suing several Democrat-led states in the U.S. Supreme Court over their so-called “shield laws” that enable abortion activists to escape accountability for shipping abortion drugs into states where they are illegal. The three pro-life states are also pursuing legal action in federal district court against more than 30 individuals and organizations involved in flooding the states with illegal abortion drugs.

Twenty-two states and D.C. have some form of pro-abortion “shield” law or executive order. Democrat Governors Gavin Newsom (CA) and Kathy Hochul (NY) have explicitly refused to extradite abortionists to face criminal charges for harming women and girls in Louisiana and Texas, with Newsom telling Louisiana AG Liz Murrill to “Go f— yourself.”

“Democrats’ pro-abortion extremism has brought this country to a crisis point. Abortion activists flagrantly sell dangerous drugs across state lines and women and children pay the price, with more and more survivors of ‘death in a pill’ bravely coming forward. The constitutional issue is clear: blue states are playing politics to obstruct justice. We thank Attorneys General Murrill, Marshall and Griffin, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, and our allies in every pro-life state for their commitment to fight back.

“We continue to encourage U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche and the Department of Justice to swiftly settle the case with Louisiana—saving 15,000 or more lives each month by getting these deadly drugs out of the mail immediately. At a minimum, Americans of every political persuasion strongly favor in-person dispensing.”

Women harmed by abortion drugs met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill last week to share their life-threatening experiences and advocate rolling back Biden administration’s mail-order mifepristone rule. Their visit followed U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH) speaking out after a Toledo man was sentenced to a mere six months plus probation for poisoning his then-girlfriend and their unborn child—one of many bad actors nationwide enabled by the Biden rule.

Prior to his confirmation, Attorney General Blanche told the Senate Judiciary Committee, “We are not in any way defending what Biden and his administration did,” and a group of faith leaders he was working “so that the Dobbs decision becomes permanent in every single state” in relation to abortion drugs.

Last month the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee issued a report on its investigation into the dangerous practices of abortion drug manufacturers, finding that even minimal FDA safety standards are not upheld. Research from the Charlotte Lozier Institute found 81% of online abortion businesses send mifepristone to kill unborn children far beyond the 10-week timeframe the FDA has established, putting women at increased risk of life-threatening complications.
