No support for senators who betray pro-life voters

Washington, D.C. – Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America issued a statement today firmly opposing a Hyde “compromise” being floated:

“There is no ‘compromise’ on taxpayer funding of abortion. Either the Hyde Amendment applies or it doesn’t. Either tax dollars fund plans that cover abortion – or they don’t. The proposal being floated is nowhere near Hyde,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser.

“Under this so-called compromise, tens of billions of taxpayer dollars would still flow to plans that cover abortion on demand until birth, including painful late-term abortions. The ‘separate payment’ scheme, first devised by Obama and Pelosi, has always been an accounting gimmick and a deliberate departure from Hyde. Conducting an audit on an accounting gimmick is not Hyde.

“This proposal should be considered dead on arrival by the entire Senate GOP conference.

“SBA Pro-Life America does not oppose health care reform. Our simple request is that the GOP majority apply the Hyde Amendment to any reform—a bare minimum standard for decades.

“At a minimum, SBA Pro-Life America will not politically support any GOP senator who backs this sham compromise.

“Hyde’s impact on life and death cannot be ignored: at least 2.6 million Americans are alive today because of it. That number would be even higher if Hyde had applied to Obamacare. Instead, taxpayer dollars are complicit in abortion and babies have died.

“Many Americans already view Hyde as a compromise as long as abortion remains legal. If abortion is legal, at the very least, taxpayers should not be forced to fund it.”

As of 2025, the Hyde Amendment is estimated to have saved more than 2.6 million lives. SBA Pro-Life America opposes any health care proposal that fails to include Hyde Amendment protections and will continue to score against any effort that forces Americans to pay for abortions or abortion coverage. To suggest Republicans should be ‘flexible’ is an abandonment of this decades-long commitment. If Republicans abandon Hyde, they are sure to lose this November.

“The voters sent a GOP trifecta to Washington and they expect it to govern like one. Giving in to Democrat demands that our tax dollars are used to fund plans that cover abortion on demand until birth would be a massive betrayal.

“President Trump has consistently supported the Hyde Amendment. He pledged repeatedly to make it permanent law, including in health care coverage, and one of his first actions upon taking office last year was prioritizing the reversal of President Biden’s Hyde violations.

States Demand Action From Admin as FDA Stalls

Washington, D.C. – The State of Louisiana, led by Attorney General Liz Murrill, and abortion drug coercion survivor Rosalie Markezich, are asking a federal district court to block the Biden administration’s mail-order abortion drug rule in a new filing this week. They sued the U.S. Food and Drug Administration earlier this year, citing the Biden-era rule for harming women, ending the lives of countless unborn children, and undermining efforts by states like Louisiana to enforce protective pro-life laws.

Markezich has spoken out about how the Biden rule enables coercion and abuse toward women who are unwilling to abort their babies. Last year Louisiana enacted the Catherine and Josephine Herring Act making it a crime to poison women with abortion drugs after the harrowing experience of Catherine Herring and her daughter, who survived seven poisoning attempts.

In a letter to U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) last week, FDA Commissioner Marty Makary admitted hundreds of women have required blood transfusions due to abortion drugs – yet he has given no timetable for ending Biden’s mail-order drug rule or completing a promised safety review of mifepristone. SBA Pro-Life America has called for Makary to be fired.

SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser welcomed the move, saying:

“Louisiana and other states are demanding action to stop dangerous mail-order abortion drugs as the administration is MIA. Undermining strong pro-life laws in 21 states, abortion drugs now cause more deaths a year in the United States than opioids and all other drugs combined – fueled by Biden-era rules allowing them to be sent by mail without ever seeing a doctor in person. Not only unborn children, but mothers, too, are at risk. The horrifying case of an Ohio woman allegedly force-fed abortion drugs against her will is one of at least a dozen poisonings and deaths we know of while the Biden rules have been in force.

“It’s time to treat this as the crisis it is. This administration could have ended Biden’s cruel mail-order drug scheme and reinstated commonsense safeguards from the first Trump administration on day one, and 7 in 10 voters including a majority of liberals would back them. But with Marty Makary in charge of the FDA, not only has a new generic abortion drug been approved, but news reports confirm the comprehensive safety review we’ve repeatedly been promised has not even started – reportedly slow-walked for political, not scientific reasons. Enough is enough. Fire Makary and end Biden’s mail-order drug madness today.”

Peer-reviewed research found three quarters of ER visits within 30 days after abortion drug use were coded as severe or critical. Two separate, independent studies also found more than 1 in 10 women experience at least one severe adverse event. Complications can include hemorrhaging, infection, sepsis, and even death.

House vote on Jeffries plan will be decisive in SBA political decision-making in 2026

Washington, D.C. – In response to GOP Reps. Fitzpatrick, Lawler, Bresnahan and Mackenzie partnering with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ push to force a vote on extending Obamacare subsidies without Hyde protections, SBA Pro-Life America issued the following statement:

“The GOP cannot afford to take its pro-life base for granted heading into 2026,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Base turnout determines midterm elections. Without it – especially without President Trump on the ballot – Republicans cannot win.

“The House vote on the Jeffries plan to extend COVID-era Obamacare subsidies without Hyde protections will be a decisive factor in SBA Pro-Life America’s political engagement in both primaries and the general election in 2026.

“SBA Pro-Life America thanks Speaker Mike Johnson, Leader Scalise, and the entire House GOP leadership team for their unwavering leadership in advancing a GOP health care package led by Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks that includes vital Hyde protections to prevent taxpayer funding of abortion. Speaker Johnson’s resolve stands in stark contrast to the flip-flopping of Rep. When Rep. Fitzpatrick entered Congress in 2017, one of his first votes was for the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, which would have permanently codified the Hyde Amendment and applied it to Obamacare. In 2019, he signed a letter urging President Trump to veto any bill that weakened pro-life taxpayer protections. Yet in 2025, he is now partnering with Hakeem Jeffries and every Democrat to force taxpayer-funded abortion – directly violating the Hyde Amendment he once championed and sought to strengthen.

Fitzpatrick’s reversal, along with the decisions by GOP Representatives Mike Lawler, Rob Bresnahan, and Ryan Mackenzie to sign Jeffries’ discharge petition, is triggering a vote on a plan that excludes Hyde protections.

Admin Must End Biden’s Mail-Order Abortion Drug Rule TODAY

Washington, D.C. – Abortions in the U.S. have increased this year under a remaining Biden policy that subverts the pro-life laws in 21 states. This week #WeCount issued a report showing a 40% increase in mail-order abortions from the first six months of 2024 to the first half of 2025.

Biden’s mail-order abortion policy removed basic standards on mifepristone that were in place during the first Trump administration like in-person doctor visits. Since then, women have come forward after being poisoned by abusers. In Ohio, a medical resident has been criminally indicted for obtaining abortion drugs online by fraud and forcing them into his pregnant girlfriend’s mouth.

Leading Pro-Life Group Will Score Against Any Plan – Dem or GOP – That Extends Obamacare Without Hyde

Washington, D.C. – In response today’s health care votes in the Senate and the ongoing debate in the House, SBA Pro-Life America announced it is scoring against the Schumer plan and praised the Hyde protections in the Cassidy-Crapo proposal.

In a statement, SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser said:

“Sen. Schumer is aggressively driving an effort to force taxpayers to fund abortion by pushing an extension of Obamacare subsidies without Hyde protections. His plan would lock in years of taxpayer-funded abortion. We’re grateful to Leader Thune and Senate allies for standing firm and offering an alternative in the Cassidy-Crapo plan that includes strong Hyde protections.

As the debate continues in the House, we reiterate our strong opposition to any plan – Republican or Democrat – that lacks Hyde protections.
