Florida Senate Sends 15-Week Limit on Late Abortions to Gov. DeSantis’ Desk
“We thank all our allies in the Florida Legislature, especially Sen. Kelli Stargel and Rep. Erin Grall, who worked hard to pass commonsense limits on late abortions. We’re excited this legislation is on its way to Governor DeSantis,” said SBA List State Policy Director Sue Liebel. “At a time when pro-abortion extremists in Washington are pushing a deeply unpopular agenda of abortion on demand until the moment of birth, states like Florida are fighting back to assert the will of the people. This humane legislation would save more than 3,000 lives a year in Florida by limiting abortion at a point when science shows unborn babies can feel pain. Floridians of all stripes agree this would be a significant step forward for the Sunshine State. We appreciate Gov. DeSantis’ strong stand for women and children and greatly look forward to seeing him sign this bill into law.”
SBA List Celebrates as Florida House Passes 15-Week Limit Stopping Late Abortions
“We are greatly encouraged to see commonsense limits on late abortions moving forward in the Florida Legislature,” said SBA List State Policy Director Sue Liebel. “The U.S. is a global outlier in allowing abortion on demand well past the point when unborn babies can feel pain. In Florida alone, limiting abortions after 15 weeks would save more than 3,000 lives a year and better reflect the consensus views of Americans and most of the world.
“We are thankful for all our local allies working to advance this humane legislation, especially SBA List National Pro-Life Women’s Caucus members Representative Erin Grall Senator Kelli Stargel, and for the support and leadership of Gov. DeSantis. We urge the Senate to send this bill swiftly to his desk, and we hope the Supreme Court will soon recognize the right of the people in every state to enact laws protecting unborn children and their mothers.”
Florida House to Vote on 15-Week Limit Stopping Late Abortions
“Stopping late abortions after 15 weeks, when unborn babies have fully formed fingers and toes, suck their thumb, and feel pain, would save well over 3,000 lives a year in the Sunshine State. Floridians agree it’s time to end this inhumane practice,” said SBA List State Policy Director Sue Liebel. “As we await the Supreme Court’s decision in the Dobbs case, lawmakers in Florida and across the nation are taking proactive steps to safeguard women and children. We commend SBA List National Pro-Life Women’s Caucus members Senator Kelli Stargel and Representative Erin Grall for their initiative, as well as Governor DeSantis for his bold leadership, and we urge the Legislature to send this commonsense bill swiftly to his desk.”
SBA List Urges Florida Legislature to Swiftly Enact 15-Week Limit to Stop Late-Term Abortions
“We urge the Florida Legislature to swiftly pass and send to Governor DeSantis’s desk this groundbreaking pro-life legislation that would finally end brutal late-term abortions in the Sunshine State,” SBA List State Policy Director Sue Liebel. “Abortions after 15 weeks are gruesome and inhumane for unborn children and increasingly dangerous for the mother with every passing week. We commend Senator Kelli Stargel and Representative Erin Grall, both members of Susan B. Anthony List’s National Pro-Life Women’s Caucus, for their strong leadership. Governor DeSantis is a strong pro-life leader and we look forward to seeing him swiftly sign this bill into law.”
