SBA List Urges Pro-life Senate to Unify and Take Action

Washington, D.C.
  – This morning the U.S. House passed a reconciliation bill (H.R. 3762) which includes a provision to defund Planned Parenthood and reallocate those taxpayer dollars to comprehensive health care centers. These entities, such as Community Health Centers, do everything Planned Parenthood does and more, but do not provide abortion on demand. Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) applauded the vote and urged the Senate to follow suit.

SBA List previously led a coalition letter signed by 38 national and state pro-life leaders urging Congress to defund Planned Parenthood through reconciliation.

“Today’s House vote cuts Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid funding – the most significant portion of the abortion business’s overall $528 million a year in taxpayer funding. Women have the most to gain from congressional action to reroute these tax dollars to community and rural health centers, which provide comprehensive health care services to women, but do not abort the lives of unborn children and harvest their body parts.

“Now is the time for the Senate to unify and take action. This is a top priority vote for the pro-life movement. Weakened resolve in the face of Planned Parenthood’s conduct is unacceptable.

“Getting this bill on President Obama’s desk is vital to moving this issue forward, educating Americans, and encouraging them to watch the videos that expose Planned Parenthood’s atrocities. This process also sets out an important pathway for a new pro-life president in 2017.”

Charlotte Lozier Institute research has found that if Planned Parenthood were defunded, the net change in patient population per Federally Qualified Health Center service site would be approximately 110 women – that is, two additional women per week.

The Susan B. Anthony List and its Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, spent $16.71 million in the 2014 election cycle to defeat pro-abortion incumbents and elect pro-life candidates to federal and statewide office. The SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
