Total $1.6 Million Campaign Exposes Manchin’s Flip-Flops on Taxpayer Funding for Planned Parenthood, America’s #1 Abortion Business

Washington, D.C. – Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) announced a second round of TV and radio ads as part of a total $1.6 Million issue advocacy campaign to educate West Virginia voters about Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) support for taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion business. A new $570K television ad buy begins today on broadcast and cable across the state, with an additional $185K spend on radio.

“West Virginia is one of the most pro-life states in the nation but instead of standing with Mountaineers, Senator Manchin votes to send taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion business. Senator Manchin even voted against the right of states to stop funding the abortion industry with taxpayer dollars. When it comes to safeguarding taxpayer dollars from funding the big abortion industry, Senator Manchin cannot be trusted,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of Susan B. Anthony List

The latest TV ad script:

“VO: We expect our Senators to represent our state’s pro-life values. But Senator Joe Manchin is trying to have it both ways. Manchin calls himself ‘pro-life.’ But he has repeatedly voted to spend more of your tax dollars to fund Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion business in the country.

“SENATOR MANCHIN: I voted to fund Planned Parenthood.

“VO: And Manchin voted against legislation giving states the authority to defund Planned Parenthood. Remind him that in West Virginia we want to STOP taxpayer funding for abortion.”

Background:

• April 2011: Manchin voted against a resolution that would have barred the use of taxpayer funds in a continuing resolution from going to Planned Parenthood.
• August 2015: Manchin cast a pro-life vote when he voted for Cloture On S. 1881, A Bill To Prohibit Federal Funding For Planned Parenthood.
• December 2015: Just a few months later, Sen. Manchin voted against an amendment to remove a section of an Obamacare repeal bill that would have prohibited funding for Planned Parenthood.
• March 2017: Most recently Sen. Manchin voted with pro-abortion Democrats against a resolution that would nullify an HHS rule that prevents states from restricting federal family planning funding to Planned Parenthood.

Earlier this month Susan B. Anthony List launched an initial $785K ad buy on television and radio.
