Susan B. Anthony List-endorsed pro-life candidates and the SBA List Votes Have Consequences project saw many successes on Election Night that were echoed in the media this week. In addition to tracking the larger GOP victory trends, several national and local outlets included the pro-life women victories in their post-election analysis. Likewise, outlets tracking the political consequences of Members’ votes in favor of the health care bill often noted how the bill’s inclusion of taxpayer-funded abortion played a role in the defeat of pro-abortion incumbents.
In total, SBA List:
– Successfully defeated 15 out of 20 of its Votes Have Consequences targets
– Elected 78 percent of the pro-life candidates it endorsed
– Beat EMILY’s List in 83 percent of head-to-head endorsed races
– Helped to increase the number of pro-life women in the House of representatives by 60 percent
– Helped to decrease the number of pro-abortion women in the House of Representatives by 16 percent
– Helped to increase the number of pro-life women governors to 66 percent
Two days after the election, SBA List also launched its Stop the Abortion Funding campaign, aimed at ending all federal funding of abortion in the 112th Congress. The effort included mobilization of SBA List’s ever-growing 280,000-member grassroots network and a website for pro-life activists to lobby Congress to pass legislation prohibiting taxpayer funding of abortion.
