Planned Parenthood alone received nearly $700M from taxpayers while killing almost 400,000 babies in one year

   
Washington, D.C. – Over 150 national and state pro-life leaders representing groups from all 50 states sent a letter to members of Congress encouraging them to seize the moment and stop the flow of American tax dollars toward the abortion industry.

Reconciliation bills in 2015 and 2017 included a provision to stop funneling American tax dollars to Big Abortion. This year, Congress can finally end funding for an industry that endangers women, kills unborn children and spends millions lobbying for abortion on demand with no limits. Per their last annual report, Planned Parenthood alone took the lives of nearly 400,000 babies and received almost $700 million – nearly $2 million a day – from taxpayers in just one year.

The letter reads in part:

In November, the American people gave a mandate – it is time for change in Washington. Since then, the White House is taking swift action to stop the Biden abortion agenda and cut government waste. A Republican trifecta presents the opportunity to bolster these efforts by cutting funding for Big Abortion, including Planned Parenthood, through budget reconciliation.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser issued the following statement:

“Abortion is the leading cause of death in America and for too long, hardworking Americans have been forced to underwrite it. The pro-life movement is fully united around getting taxpayers out of the brutal abortion industry, which kills 1 million babies and harms countless mothers each year. It’s unconscionable that abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood are propped up by hundreds of millions of dollars annually, courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer. Our 150-member-strong coalition representing every state in the country sends a clear message that the abortion industry never deserves our tax dollars and that this Republican Congress has both the support and the duty to defund Big Abortion.”

The evidence is clear – Big Abortion harms women and girls, destroys unborn babies’ lives and is a terrible investment for taxpayers:

• The New York Times recently exposed Planned Parenthood’s record of substandard “care” including botched abortions, incorrectly inserted IUDs, open sewage and more.
• Last month, 18-year-old Lexi Arguello died after a Colorado Planned Parenthood allegedly delayed emergency care for late-term abortion complications.
• Last year, Planned Parenthood in Missouri was caught on video offering to help a man transport a 13-year-old girl out of state for an abortion, saying, “We never tell the parents anything. She’s an adult in our clinics.” Planned Parenthood is a top destination for traffickers, with survivors reporting, “They didn’t ask any questions.”
• According to a lawsuit, a woman who traveled from out of state needed emergency surgery after an Illinois abortionist left half of her aborted baby’s body inside her.
• In 2018, following at least half a decade of health code violations, Planned Parenthood’s Columbia, Missouri facility was shut down after staff admitted using moldy abortion equipment on women for months.
• In 2017, Congress investigated Planned Parenthood and made 13 criminal referrals to the Justice Department for its role in the illegal harvest and sale of baby body parts.
• Planned Parenthood routinely lobbies against basic safety standards for their facilities.
