Radical Pro-Abortion Groups Flood States With Millions of Dollars to Roll Back Commonsense Protections
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A dangerous constitutional ballot amendment filed in Florida would impose an extreme abortion regime that would prevent commonsense, common ground protections for women and children which are supported by large majorities in Florida and across the country.
ACLU and Planned Parenthood also will launch a “multi-million-dollar initiative” to roll back Florida’s democratically enacted protections for women, girls and unborn babies, Politico reports.
The text of the amendment states (emphasis added):
Health is not defined, and viability would be subject to the “professional judgment” of the abortionist. Florida abortion center staff have been known to refuse medical care to babies born alive and leave them to die instead. Data from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration indicate that more than 30 babies have been born alive since 2013 when the state enacted its Infants Born Alive Act.
SBA Pro-Life America’s State Policy Director Katie Daniel slammed the proposed amendment:
“The radical abortion lobby’s post-Dobbs playbook is clear. Groups like the ACLU and Planned Parenthood are flooding states around the country with millions of dollars to confuse and deceive the people, enshrine brutal late-term abortion on demand right up to birth with no protections for babies born alive, and destroy the right of parents to protect their daughters. Just look at their own words calling concerned parents “barriers.” President Biden himself believes there is no such thing as someone else’s child, suggesting children belong collectively to the most extreme fringe voices on the Left.
“Governor DeSantis consistently acts on the will of the people who overwhelmingly support parental consent before abortion for minors and who want to protect babies with beating hearts. It is crucial that voters understand what is at stake in the pro-abortion Left’s war on women, children and parents and we are committed to exposing their extreme agenda in Florida and nationwide.”
Earlier this year Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the Heartbeat Protection Act to save tens of thousands of lives of babies with beating hearts and provide $25 million to support moms during pregnancy and beyond. According to a poll conducted by Ragnar, 62% of likely Florida voters back heartbeat protections, including 76% of Hispanic voters, 61% of Independents and 58% of women. He signed Florida’s parental consent protections into law in 2019.
