Karen Harrington will join Rep. Ros-Lehtinen in Providing Strong Leadership in Congress

Washington, DC ─ Tonight the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, praised Floridians for nominating pro-life Karen Harrington to run against radical abortion advocate Rep. Debbie Wasserman Shultz in Congressional District 20. Longtime pro-life Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-18) was unopposed in tonight’s primary.

“The matchup between Karen Harrington and Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz embodies the very mission of the Susan B. Anthony List: a pro-life woman challenging an unabashed advocate of the pro-abortion agenda,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.  “Karen is the ideal contrast to the radical, pro-abortion leadership of Debbie Wasserman Schultz and her 100 percent Planned Parenthood Action Fund rating.

“We look forward to seeing Karen join Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen, a consistent and passionate voice for life who was unopposed in tonight’s primary, in the House Pro-life Women’s Caucus. Florida women and families deserve the feminine pro-life leadership that these two women can provide.”

Karen Harrington, a three time cancer survivor, was endorsed by Florida Right to Life in the 2010 and 2012 elections.  Her opponent Rep. Wasserman Schultz spent nearly a million dollars to defeat her in the 2010 midterm elections where Harrington earned 38 percent of the vote. Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, Wasserman Shultz has been endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice America.

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who currently represents Florida’s 18th congressional district and has been in office since 1989, was unopposed in tonight’s primary. A longtime pro-life advocate, Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen is a member of the Pro-life Women’s Caucus and has been the leader on the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act, which seeks to protect underage girls from being taken across state lines to circumvent parental involvement laws.

During the 2010 election cycle, SBA List spent $11 million and was involved in 90 races, 62 of which resulted in victories. Successes included: defeating 15 of 20 so-called “pro-life” Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care reform bill, increasing the number of pro-life women in the House by 70 percent, filling the void of pro-life women in the U.S. Senate and increasing the number of pro-life women governors from one to four.

The Susan B. Anthony List, and its connected Political Action Committee, the SBA List Candidate Fund, are dedicated to electing candidates and pursuing policies that will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List will emphasize the election, education, promotion, and mobilization of pro-life women.
