GOP House Majority Sets Tone That Life Is Worth Protecting

Washington, D.C.Today the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on the first two pro-life initiatives of the 118th Congress:

SBA Pro-Life America previously announced its support and will score in favor of the two initiatives being brought for consideration. The group’s president, Marjorie Dannenfelser, commented:

“Our government’s most sacred duty is to safeguard the lives of all Americans. We thank GOP leadership for recognizing the federal government’s crucial role in protecting our most vulnerable children and their mothers in the Dobbs era. In contrast to the Democrats’ top agenda item of pushing abortion on demand until birth and even infanticide, paid for by the taxpayer, Republicans are aligned with the majority of Americans who reject pro-abortion extremism. These GOP initiatives would affirm the sanctity of human life – born and unborn – by supporting our heroes serving women, children, and families in communities nationwide and ensuring that any baby who survives an abortion receives the same standard of care as any newborn of the same gestational age.

House Democrats’ first act of the 118th Congress was to push for a procedural vote on the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, better known as the Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act, which would mandate abortion on demand throughout pregnancy in all 50 states. The extreme legislation repeatedly failed to pass the Senate in 2022.

Dannenfelser continued, “We thank Rep. Scalise, bill sponsors Rep. Wagner and Rep. Mike Johnson, GOP leadership, and our House allies for their defense of life. Early in the new Congress, every House member will go on record and we urge members on both sides of the aisle to join in voting for these commonsense bills against infanticide and violence toward life-saving nonprofits.”

SBA Pro-Life America and its research arm Charlotte Lozier Institute have documented hundreds of cases nationwide of babies being born alive during failed abortions. A CLI report shows that protections for abortion survivors are inconsistent across the United States, with fewer than half of states maintaining sufficient protections.

Additionally, CLI research finds that pregnancy centers and other community-based health providers outnumber abortion facilities at least 14 to one nationwide and provide vital material, medical, and educational support to millions of families each year. Her PLAN, a project of SBA Pro-Life America Education Fund, has compiled dozens of stories from pregnancy center/maternity home workers and volunteers and the women they served in 2022.

Seventy-six percent of voters, including Democrats and pro-choice voters, are supportive of pregnancy centers, yet the toxic rhetoric of leading Democrats has contributed to at least 78 attacks on pregnancy centers and pro-life groups since the Dobbs leak last May.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is a network of more than one million pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
