Democrats’ Lawless Mail-Order Abortion Drug Regime Endangers Women & Children in Every State
Springfield, Ill. – In the latest callous assault on a pregnant woman and her unborn child using unregulated abortion drugs, a Normal, IL man has been charged with homicide after allegedly drugging his girlfriend with mifepristone at approximately seven weeks of pregnancy. Police reportedly found the woman crying in her bathroom amid “a large amount of blood,” and the body of her child in the toilet. The man reportedly told police he wanted his girlfriend to have an abortion and that he bought mifepristone for $50 from “a girl on campus.”
Under Governor JB Pritzker, who has pledged to make Illinois an “oasis” for abortion on demand, the state’s abortion laws are among the most radical in the nation and abortion rates increased 13% from 2020-2021.
Moreover, Pritzker has spent millions to repeal protections for babies in pro-life states and export Illinois’ extreme abortion policies around the country.
The news report comes on the heels of a lawsuit earlier this month out of Texas which accuses a man of spiking another woman’s drink with abortion drugs.
Katie Daniel, director of legal affairs & policy counsel for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, made the following statement:
“Radical Democrats like Pritzker prioritize all-trimester abortion on demand with no limits, and women and children pay the price. With some of the country’s most extreme abortion laws, even allowing barbaric partial-birth abortions, Illinois is home to so-called doctors who can leave half of a dismembered baby’s body inside a patient and get a mere slap on the wrist. Meanwhile Planned Parenthood boasts of selling high-risk abortion drugs to anyone with a zip code over the web, ‘completely free of face-to-face interaction with a clinician.’
“No state, no matter how pro-life, is currently safe from a flood of unregulated mail-order abortion drugs. Blue-state ‘shield laws’ protect abortionists and activists who break the laws of other states – fueling domestic violence, putting women in the ER, taking the lives of their children against their will. This is just the latest in an epidemic of assaults, including a woman in Texas who was poisoned with drugs bought from a foreign, criminal abortion ring that had no qualms prescribing them to a man. Encouragingly, FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary has pledged to conduct a fresh review of the data on health and safety risks of abortion drugs. Yet it’s clear women and children are being harmed. We thank all our state allies who are fighting back, and at a minimum, we urge the FDA to restore commonsense safeguards like in-person doctor visits for these exceptionally high-risk drugs.”
Separately, Florida and Texas have joined Missouri, Idaho and Kansas in a case challenging the FDA’s likely illegal approval of abortion drugs.
