Television Ad Exposes Vote for Taxpayer Funding of Abortion in Obamacare

Washington, DC ─ Today, the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) announced the launch of a combined $90,000 television ad and mail campaign to educate voters on Indiana senate candidate Rep. Joe Donnelly’s record of voting for taxpayer funding of abortion by supporting Obamacare. Previously, the SBA List attempted to use billboards to educate constituents about Donnelly’s record, however, Lamar Companies cited an ongoing lawsuit between the SBA List and former Ohio Congressman Steve Driehaus as the reason it would not accept the billboard placement. Driehaus’ legal battle against SBA List is ongoing, including his defamation claim in which the former congressman alleges that the SBA List cost him his job and a “loss of livelihood” after the group tried erecting similar billboards in his district in 2010. The weeklong $40,000 TV ad buy begins on Monday.

“In 2010, Joe Donnelly was one of the so-called ‘pro-life’ Democrats who chose party over principle and betrayed unborn children and pro-life taxpayers by voting for Obamacare, the largest expansion of abortion on-demand since Roe,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “There is no statute of limitation on the consequences of that vote. It’s time to send Joe Donnelly home – not to higher office. Indiana women and families deserve better – they deserve the principled leadership of Richard Mourdock in the U.S. Senate. Mourdock has pledged to get taxpayers out of the abortion business by repealing Obamacare and will be a voice for life in the U.S. Senate.”

As the Affordable Care Act is implemented, some former Members of Congress are publicly lamenting their vote for it, which cost them their job during the 2010 midterm elections. Both former Representatives Bart Stupak and Kathy Dahlkemper have decried the fact that with the HHS Mandate, President Obama violated the abortion funding ‘compromise’ they thought they had secured.

During the 2010 midterm elections, the Susan B. Anthony List defeated 15 out of 20 of the Democrats who failed to hold firm on their pro-life principles during the vote over the Affordable Care Act.

The Susan B. Anthony List, and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates that will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List will emphasize the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
