WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, announced its endorsement of Kay Ivey, Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama.
“Kay Ivey’s candidacy comes as part of a tidal wave of pro-life women candidates this election cycle,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA List Candidate Fund. “A new women’s movement which affirms its original pro-life roots is making its way to top posts in every level of government, and Ivey is one of its proven leaders.”
“Her advocacy for the unborn has been reliable in the past and SBA List is excited to have another opportunity to endorse a statewide candidate.”
Kay Ivey was elected to serve the state of Alabama as Treasurer in 2002, the first Republican to hold the office since Reconstruction. A popular leader in Alabama, she was re-elected with more than 60 of the vote in 2006 – more than any other candidate on the ballot in a contested statewide race.
Ivey has vocalized strong support for preventing abortions through tax breaks for adoptive and foster families and by promoting pro-life counseling centers to counter the harmful advice women and young girls receive from so-called “family planning” clinics.
Ivey will face Democrat incumbent Jim Folsom, Jr. in the November general election.
The Susan B. Anthony List plans to spend $6 million on voter education in the midterm elections, including $3 million on key Senate races. The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of over 280,000 Americans, residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.
