Last night at SBA List Gala, Vice President Pence Hailed Vote on Obamacare Repeal Bill that 1) Stops Taxpayer Funding of Pro-Abortion Health Care Plans and 2) Redirects Planned Parenthood’s Funding

Washington, D.C. – By a vote of 217 to 213, today the U.S. House of Representatives passed a health care repeal bill that includes two critical pro-life provisions.

SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser released the following statement:

“As the Vice President said last night at our annual gala, the legislation passed by the House today does two important things. First, the legislation stops the Obamacare abortion expansion by preventing taxpayer funding of health care plans that cover abortion on-demand. Second, the bill redirects taxpayer dollars away from Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business, to health care centers that provide comprehensive primary and preventative care to women and girls,” said SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser. “We urge the Senate to keep these non-negotiable provisions and quickly advance this bill to the President’s desk.”

Vice President Mike Pence announced today’s vote in his speech at Susan B. Anthony List’s annual gala last night and noted the bill’s pro-life provisions saying:

“Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, Congress is going to vote to repeal and replace Obamacare.  And when they vote to repeal and replace Obamacare, we will finally defund Planned Parenthood…The day Obamacare passed — it was a day of disappointment for the sanctity of life.  But hope is finally shining through.  The bill before the Congress actually eliminates Obamacare’s abortion expansion and it defunds Planned Parenthood, and keeps the President’s promise to devote those resources to healthcare providers that help women without promoting abortion.”

The proposal to redirect taxpayer funding from Planned Parenthood would result in a $422 million increase in federal funding for community health care centers, which enjoy strong bipartisan support, avoid provision or promotion of abortion, and now serve nearly 24.3 million people (and climbing) in medically underserved communities across the United States.

Community health centers outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities by at least 20 to one and offer a full range of primary health care, unlike Planned Parenthood.

Susan B. Anthony List and its partner super PAC, Women Speak Out spent more than $18 million in the 2016 election cycle, knocking on more than 1.1 million doors in battleground states to defeat Hillary Clinton and maintain a pro-life Senate. SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women.  The SBA List is a network of more than 465,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
